Hardware Engineer
San Francisco, CA
We are a small team with a shared belief in the future of Intelligence. At Verterra, you won't just be working on Intelligence — you'll be helping define its future.
About the role
We are looking for a Hardware Engineer to join our team. You will engineer and design the hardware for our AR glasses.
What you'll work on
- Own the electrical architecture of Insight Glasses — schematic capture, HDI PCB layout, power & signal-integrity for our AR glasses
- Partner with a leading waveguide optics vendor to integrate custom micro-display engines and maximize resolution, field-of-view and eye-relief
- Bring-up and validate prototypes, then design for manufacturability and automated test to scale our 600K-unit/yr contract line from EVT → DVT → MP
- Collaborate with firmware, kernel and product teams to optimise thermals, latency and battery life while keeping the data fly-wheel spinning
What we're looking for
- 5+ years shipping high-volume consumer or AR/VR hardware; mastery of mixed-signal/high-speed PCB design and sensor fusion
- End-to-end product ownership — from component selection and bring-up to factory test jig design and on-site line-ramp support
- Fluent with Altium/KiCad, SI/PI simulation, JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes and logic analysers; comfortable debugging down to the PHY
- Exposure to waveguide or micro-display optics and the mechanical constraints of head-worn devices
- Thrives in an ambiguous, fast-moving startup; eager to translate bleeding-edge research into shipping atoms
- We hire for ability, not credentials — if you're passionate about fusing hardware and intelligence, we want to hear from you
Compensation, benefits, and perks
- Annual salary: $205K - $255K
- 401(k) plan with 6% salary matching
- Generous health, dental and vision insurance for you and your dependents
- Unlimited paid time off
- Visa sponsorship and relocation stipend to bring you to SF, if possible
- A small, fast-paced, highly focused team
